About Umoja Robotics

We Are Solving A Problem

In 2018, Team Umoja was established to tackle the achievement gap of Black youth and increase their
engagement in STEM | Science Technology Engineering and Math. Umoja operates under ACCN, a
Toronto-based, registered charitable organization focused on empowering Black youth and families by providing resources to overcome systemic barriers.

FIRST Impact Award Winners

In 2024, Team Umoja won the FIRST Impact Award at the Scarborough District Championship. This award honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the mission of FIRST – to provide life-changing robotics programs that give young people the skills, confidence, and resilience to build a better world.

FRC Imagery Award

This award celebrates attractiveness in engineering and outstanding visual aesthetic integration of machine and team appearance.

Team Spirit Award

Celebrates extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit through exceptional partnership and teamwork furthering the objectives of FIRST.

Rookie Inspiration Award

Celebrates a rookie team’s outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering and engineers, both within their school, as well as in their community.

Celebrates the team that demonstrates a professional approach to the design process.
