The Umoja Robotics Awards and Recognition Celebration held on Saturday, July 6th, 2024, was a testament to the exceptional talent, dedication, and community spirit that defines the Umoja Robotics team. The evening honored the achievements of five graduates moving on to university and celebrated the team’s remarkable accomplishments during the 2023/2024 season, including receiving the Impact Award at the Provincial Robotics Competition and qualifying for the FIRST Robotics World Championships in Houston, Texas.

Hosted by Carl Reid, Mentor for Umoja 7712, the event was a heartwarming tribute to the hard work and determination of the students, mentors, and supporters of Umoja Robotics. Carl Reid’s enthusiasm and pride in the team’s accomplishments set the tone for an evening filled with inspiration and celebration.

The keynote address was delivered by the legendary Michael “Pinball” Clemons, whose notable career in football and dedication to youth empowerment through the Pinball Clemons Foundation resonated with the audience. Clemons, known for his remarkable achievements in the CFL and his impactful work off the field, shared his journey and the importance of perseverance, teamwork, and giving back to the community. His words left a lasting impression, encouraging attendees to pursue their dreams with passion and resilience.

Highlights of the Evening
The celebration featured a special address from Ms. Judy Yeung, representing the Member of Parliament for Scarborough North, Shaun Chen. Ms. Yeung praised the Umoja Robotics team for their outstanding achievements and highlighted the importance of STEM education in shaping the future.

One of the most memorable moments of the night was the presentation of awards by Ms. Cherryl Lewis, Executive Director of ACCN, who recognized each students remarkable accomplishments. The five graduates Amelia Bork, Aiden Griffith-Reid, Dylan Thorne, Oliad Rundassa and Samuel Genene were celebrated for their academic excellence, leadership, and contributions to the Umoja Robotics team. Their success stories served as a source of inspiration for their peers and the entire community.

Umoja’s achievements during the 2023/2024 season were nothing short of remarkable.
